Courtesy of The Austin Chamber of Commerce And courtesy in part of http://www.dallasfed.org/data/topic.html My sister, who works for HUD in Atlanta, sent me an email this morning asking me to pass a message along that there is a website claiming to be HUD owned, but it is a scam. In a previous article I mentioned that Austin’s annual It’s My Park Day was to take place on Saturday March 7th in various parks and open spaces throughout Austin, TX. I volunteered at the Zilker Botanical Gardens for several hours, and left with larger muscles. My group was responsible for removing tree branches that had been cut earlier in the morning, weeding and removing old leaves from the Japanese Garden area. After the aggressive budget cuts that the Austin Parks Foundation has had to contend with, they needed our help more than I realized, a lot of the day to day maintenance is performed by volunteers and they do need more. See you next year, but if you would like to volunteer here or at other locations click here for the calendar.

On March 7th 2009, thousands of volunteers will work to clean and maintain Austin’s beautiful parks and trails. This is an annual event that gives Austin’s citizens the chance to get outside and get dirty. There 56 projects to choose from but act early to claim your spot as the best projects tend to fill up quickly. Volunteers usually get a goodie bag including a tee shirt as a thank you.
