West Gate Blvd About To Connect With Itself

Construction begins next month to finally connect West Gate Blvd across that green area that currently is a dead end; if you are going south on West Gate from, for example, William Cannon Dr, you can’t drive all the way down to Slaughter LN, you have to make a crazy detour at on Cameron Loop through a section of Cherry Creek, then you can pick West Gate Blvd up again at Cohoba Dr, and continue on to Slaughter LN. This is a long standing pain in the neck for South Austin Residents, Especially if you live near the dead end. Plus some of those back roads are very narrow and curvy and are not fun to drive at night. I would expect that a stop light will eventually appear at West Gate and Cameron Loop which hopefully will assuage concerns about speed.

Spotlight On…The Ultimate Jaywalker!

I live in South Austin more towards the west side so I take MoPac/Loop 1, a freeway, home frequently, plus my Keller Williams Office is on the MoPac Access Rd so I see a lot of it.

Every now and then as I am driving north and just passing the 71/290/Southwest Pkwy exit I will see either a group of people running across or a single   Big Giftperson walking across MoPac in that area. My question is what could be on the other side of the freeway that is so important that  you would risk your life and/or getting a nice ticket? Why not just walk the extra few minutes to the intersection and use a nice semi-safe 32020091crosswalk?

Was there a rumor that a pot of gold left over from the last rainbow is over there? Do they think that there are new sports cars waiting on the other side for the most brave souls? Actually Walmart is in the area, did they hear that there are some serious "Rollbacks" on the price of TVs? What would it take to get you to take that chance?

I don’t get it, and other drivers definitely don’t get it. Be safe out there!

South Austin’s New Farmer’s Market!

The Newflower Farmer’s Market is located on the SW corner of Manchaca & William Cannon in South Austin. This store sells fresh fruit and vegetable as South  Austin's Newflower Marketwell as fresh and seasoned seafood, foul and meat. The selection of dried fruit and nuts is more than ample and they even have roasted pistachios without salt, that was a great find for me since until two weeks ago I couldn’t find them anywhere.  They even a great beer and wine department.

So far I have tried the fresh salmon and the barbequed chicken is delicious, especially if you bake it at 350° for 1.5 hours and be sure to add a little water, but let’s get back on track, Newflower market has a good comprehensive variety of fresh foods and the prices are fair. My next goal is to try as many of the fresh cheeses as possible.
